Assistant Accountant

About the Role:

The Assistant Accountant supports the NZ Finance team in the financial management, control, and operation of the NZ business unit of CDC Data Centres. As an advocate for the NZ business unit, the Assistant Accountant ensures CDC NZ’s requirements are considered and met through working with the wider finance team. 

The role involves preparation, reconciliation, and analysis of accounting records. 

Other responsibilities include: 

  • Prepare month end journals and reconciliations for the NZ Business Unit.
  • Maintain the Asset system to ensure all CAPEX is correctly captured, categorised and entered into the asset management system with accurate depreciation calculations that is reconciled to the General Ledger at least once a month
  • Analyse variances and report.
  • Ad hoc reporting as required from time to time.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly board reporting 
  • Assist in the preparation of CDC NZ financial statements
  • Assist in the preparation of CDC NZ budgets
  • Assist in the preparation of Accounting papers

Tax

  • Assist in the preparation of GST / AIL / FBT returns on a monthly basis
  • Assist in the preparation of CDC NZ tax returns. 

Project Accounting

  • Raising of Job Cost Orders and working with internal stakeholders through the approval process.
  • Entry of project invoices into the finance system, assigning Job Costs Orders against these, reconciling, and reporting on variances and working with internal and external stakeholders through the approval process.
  • Ensuring documentation relating to invoices and Job Cost orders is captured within the financial system.
  • Assist with forecast cost to complete and cashflow forecasting for projects.
  • Set up of new suppliers within the financial system

Cash Management 

  • Assist the finance team with reconciling queries for the New Zealand bank account
  • Assist in the preparation of drawdown requests 

 New Zealand Business Unit representative 

  • Act as an advocate for the New Zealand business unit
  • Support team members with any queries relating to the New Zealand business unit
  • Any other ad hoc work requests as required by the business. 

About You:

  • Committed to a path of qualifying as a Chartered accountant (NZICA or equivalent professional body);
  • An understanding of accounting principles, the application of IFRS and CDC accounting policies;
  • Financial modelling skills including the ability to efficiently and uniformly use Excel for reporting and analysis.
  • An understanding of the underlying Data Centre Industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a diverse group of management and staff;.
  • The ability to build relationships with key contacts within CDC and external service providers.
  • The ability to openly and clearly communicate with the wider Finance team.
  • Highly motivated with a proven record of successful achievement. This includes the ability to achieve specific goals, objectives, and deadlines within the limits of the resources available.
  • High level of organisational and planning skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities and conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to deliver high quality outcomes that are accurate, complete, and timely; and
  • Strong attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Must hold a relevant degree and be working towards full qualification from an internationally recognised accounting body

Essential:

  • New Zealand citizenship and ability to obtain a National Security Clearance
