About the Role:

The Chief of Data Centre Operations is a key leadership role accountable and responsible for all operating CDC data centres across multiple campuses and locations in Australia and New Zealand.  Leading a team of Campus, Facility and Technical Managers this role is accountable for all operating infrastructure, networks, compliance, governance, and budgets. The team reporting to the Chief DC Operations is also responsible for ensuring exceptional customer service and experience.

Managing campus based and cross functional teams the role provides leadership, expertise and operating cadence that ensures support teams, internal stakeholders, suppliers, visitors, and customers have flawless interactions and engagements at every CDC site. The Operations team is responsible for ensuring that the facilities are 100% available and secure on a 24×7 basis and that all customer contracts and SLAs are adhered to.  A zero-tolerance philosophy is required to maintain and protect CDC’s peerless reputation.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), this role actively engages with the CEO, peers and the board on operational matters and has ownership of operational decisions and outcomes.

This role leads the largest team in CDC which has a significant impact on customer satisfaction and hence reputation and future growth.  In addition to executive presence and contribution, this role requires deep DC or critical infrastructure operational knowledge and a level of active management that is visible and effective in the day-to-day 24×7 operation of the campuses. The CDC senior leadership team is close to the business and its customers, and this is a key success factor for the organisation.

Responsibilities :

  • Design and deliver an end-to-end operational strategy in a growth focused organisation, working directly with the CEO and Executives to translate operational needs 
  • Operational ownership of all Data Centre campuses, the Operational Excellence Team and the Data Centre Network that meets and exceeds the safety and security requirements for every facility with a focus on zero-tolerance, zero incidents/injuries 
  • Ensure entire DC Operations site reliability and resilience with 100% uptime on 24X7 basis 
  • Manage commercial outcomes and profitability by delivering cost-effective service and rostering of staff 
  • Lead a large multi-site and geographically dispersed team (circa 100) and continue to grow a high performing culture skilled with key Data Centre competencies. 
  • Responsible for Supplier Management including budgets/resourcing and build a strong network with vendors, and relevant industry contacts especially in maintenance and security 
  • Responsible for the success of connectivity initiatives
  • Create an environment of continuous improvement and innovation to increase operational resilience, improve customer experience, sustainability and create continued differentiation from the competition
  • Risk Management including Disaster Recovery plans to mitigate operational and corporate risk
  • Provide input to corporate and customer strategy ensuring strategic delivery to market to maximise growth 

About You:

  • Deep understanding of data centres or large critical infrastructure environments.
  • Broad financial, commercial, and administrative background gained via experience in a range of senior positions across a wide range of industries
  • Flexible and adaptable with ability to manage and deliver across wide area of business requirements and geographies
  • Demonstrated financial experience in owning and administering OPEX and CAPEX budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing technical and non-technical staff and implementation of transformative initiatives
  • Demonstrated people leadership capability in a growing business
  • Ability to communicate at many levels from service technician to customer executive

Qualifications

  • 7+ years’ experience in critical environments requiring 100% 24×7 availability.
  • 10+ years’ experience in Leadership / Management roles.

Desired Skills:

  • High attention to detail and logical/analytical thought processes 
  • The ability to resolve issues and work to tight deadlines within a changing environment
  • Ability to manage 24/7 high availability sites that are geographically dispersed from Auckland to Perth
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with ESG programs

Essential:

Australian citizenship and ability to obtain NV2 Security Clearance
